Taylor Swift's 'evermore' : Listening for Reflection

from $25.00
Ticket Type:

In this one night workshop, participants will revisit Taylor Swift’s 2020 album evermore and discover how to use it as a lens for personal reflection and understanding. From 8pm-10pm ET, we will closely engage with the album, analyzing it through exercises designed to both celebrate its artistry and understand how we relate to it emotionally. I will lead you through a mix of big group exercises and small group discussions, delving deeply into songs like “‘tis the damn season,” “ivy,” “happiness,” and others, illuminating how living with this music has woven it into your life, and what that interweaving can teach you about yourself.

Like a river running through a field, the art you love can reshape you with its force, but your love and attention alter its composition as well. We will explore this relationship through listening exercises designed to help you reflect on your life through the art. We will sift through evermore and unearth both new richness of meaning in its songs and informative resonances with your own lives. It has been five years since its 2020 debut, five years since the global quarantine whose conditions profoundly informed both how the album was made and how it was received, five years containing much change and chaos. This workshop will be a chance to revisit that time, learning what from it we want to bring forward and what of it we wish to release.

Unlike my previous Taylor Swift listening parties, we will not listen to the whole album during the seminar, so participants should arrive having recently revisited it. You do not need to have every word memorized, but you should have listened to the whole album at least once before jumping into discussion. People with all levels of Taylor Swift expertise are welcome— the only requirement for participation is a belief that this album is both worthy of serious attention and capable of withstanding a critical gaze.

Finally, If you would like to attend this event, but the cost is prohibitive for you, shoot me an email and we’ll see what we can figure out. Scroll down for further information about the class structure and schedule, missing class, materials needed, and how to reach out with any additional questions.
